Happenings and Movie Reviews

Recent happenings include:
Going bird-watching with M&D Galli at Farmington Bay. A first for Andrew.

Changing the Muskooteer's oil with Ammon.

Studying diligently in preparation for the arrival of baby boy Marshall!

In other news, Andrew has a few movies he needs to see before the baby comes (the word on the street is that movies aren't good for babies, so we're planning to abstain for a season once he's born). Well we saw two last week and they were both fantastic, no matter what the critics are saying.
"Speed Racer" had the action, the story, the wholesomeness, and the fun that every summer movie begs for. Their was a family feel to the film that is untraceable in most movies these days, especially good ones. The Wachowski bros. have done it again, this time with knock-out colors and effects. The story includes motifs of repentance and forgiveness, corporate control versus the mom and pop shop, and playing for the love of the game. It's great fun. Go see it. And thanks for taking us Dad Galli!
The other film we saw was "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." It was sweet! Indy was back, fedora and bull whip in hand. While it lacked the substance and depth of the third installment ("The Last Crusade" being one of the greatest action movies ever) it was full of thrills, laughs and even a touch of sentimentality. It felt like Ford, Lucas and Spielburg just got together for a reunion tour and decided to pull out all the stops. And, by the way, this film is less graphic in its violence, less profane in its language, and less suggestive in its sexual content than the previous films. It too is great fun. Go see it. And thanks for taking us Dad Marshall!

An Update in Pictures

Ariel bought Andrew a massage for a graduation present, which she shared. If anyone wants a relaxing massage to gear up for summertime, talk to us and we'll get you our Aunt Georgia Anderson's contact, who is a certified massage therapist. She's fantastic! You'll leave refreshed and renewed!

In other news, the musical ended. Blamed if it wasn't one of the best experiences ever had. There warn't no soul-butter or hogwash found in it at all. Why when it come to truth, humor, and mighty good music, it lay over them all. It was a grand, mysterious adventure full of considerable joy, honest injun.
Andrew could not have done it without the love and support of his beautiful Ariel, who attended almost every performance and many of the rehearsals. Now it's time for him to turn around and support her as we come down to the final weeks before little Huckleberry comes to our arms!

Baby Acrobatics!

Is this normal? If he has half this energy on the outside, we're in for a crazy little boy! It'll be great!

Openings and Closings

It's been a time of openings and closings.
Andrew graduated this week. The U was good to him. He learned a great deal and really enjoyed studying journalism and diversity. Ariel postponed her graduate studies to work full-time and pay for his tuition, a sacrifice he thanks her for.

Another major closing: the mission. We were released today. We will miss those good, hard-working, loving Latino people so much. We worked with people from almost every South American country, and came to love them. We wrote letters to the legislators on their behalf, Andrew wrote newspaper articles to give them a voice that they needed. We learned to love our neighbors as ourselves. It would be impossible to express the lessons learned from these beautiful people. We will miss them dearly. We would recommend this experience to anyone, young or old (and all are able to do it. They actually need people. We can refer you to the inner-city mission if you're interested). It has left us marked for the better.

And now for the openings. Big River started! The run has been going really well. Andrew and Huck are becoming one.

And the final opening. We are opening into the last stage before baby comes. We attended a baby class this week for natural birthing. We feel great about the decision and really trust the midwife. It'll be a grand, mysterious adventure, as Huck would say.

So that's that. Life rolls on.
